Change for Abundant Life Centre

My wife Lalita and I founded Abundant Life Centre (church) in August 1978. We have been Senior Pastors for over 33 years. During this period we have had 8 pastors working with us but this is the first change in regard to the Senior Pastor’s role.

PASSING THE BATON SERVICE

We had the Transition Event which we called “Passing the Baton” Service on Sunday November 13, 2011. The gathering was attended by a number of Pastors, other Christian and also Civic Leaders. Among them were the newly arrived Philippines Ambassador to NZ H.E. Virginia Benavidez who has made our church her spiritual home during her term in our nation; also the Deputy Mayor of Wellington, Ian McKinnon and his wife Jenny. Mr McKinnon is also the Chancellor of Victoria University.

Taking part in the Laying on of Hands segment of the Service were a number of members of Apostolic Leadership Team – The National Leadership Council of the New Life Churches International with whom we are affiliated. Among the team members participating in the Service were, Pastors John Steele - the Chairman and his wife Julie (Auckland); Anne Morrow (Christchurch); Adam and Anita White (Paraparaumu – Wellington Region); David Elder and his wife Robyn (Invercargill).

We received many well wishes from Members of Parliament who were unable to attend because of the Elections and also many Christian Leaders.

SUCCESSOR

My successor Pastor Hamish Thomson has been in the ministry for about 16 years. He has been a Senior Minister in 3 churches. He has been with us for 4 years; 2 years as our Associate Pastor. He has a Master’s Degree in theology with honours – He has been a lecturer in a number of Bible Colleges. He also has worked as a Business Consultant. He is married to Anne and they have 3 children.

The Church is in very good heart and we go from strength to strength by His enabling Grace. We want to thank you all for the strong , very precious bonds in Christ that have been established over the years. Our ministry has always been to the whole Body of Christ. You have so enriched our lives. Our role has changed, but our relationships will continue!

We look forward with great anticipation to the next chapter in our lives. What an adventure Christian Life and Ministry is!

Tapanui New Life Leadership

On Sunday 4th December 2011 Pastors Edward & Janet Hutchison were inducted in as Senior Pastors for Tapanui New Life.

A word from Edward " It was a very special time for us both. We were overwhelmed by the community support, and to have Mark & Josephine Billings (Dunedin City New Life) and John & Sheila Watson (Tokanui Community New Life) there too, with their special input, was so encouraging.

We know there is a work to do, and God continually reveals it piece by piece; it's very exciting, but we can only accomplish His will as we are completely submitted to Him.

It is very comforting to know we have the support of the wider New Life Family. The week at Unleashed confirmed so much for us, both as a couple and for where we see this wee church moving."

Pastors Clive & Joy Lietze continue to be very much involved in the church, while also ministering overseas. They plan on being in Northern India for 3 months (initially) to do some volunteer work with the Emmanuel Hospital Association.

Revival School 2012

My name is Benji Alexander, my wife Alanna and I are the Directors of Revival School, Aotearoa, New Zealand. Revival School is based at Fiordland New Life Church in Te Anau.

Three years ago God began to speak to us about establishing Revival School, Aotearoa, New Zealand to raise up catalysts and stewards of a national revival in Aotearoa, New Zealand that overflows to every nation on the face of the earth. Three years later Revival School Aotearoa, New Zealand is ready for launch. On April the 10th, 2012 we will launch this 12 week school in Te Anau.

Napier Christmas in the Park

Jesus Christ is born sounded out in Napier Hawkes Bay

On the evening of 19th December 2010 the cities of Napier and Hastings were presented with an angelic choir of 150 people singing praises and a dramatic poem declaring Christ's birth, read out and punctuated with fireworks to emphasize its message. 25,000 people attended and enjoyed the whole evening.

Napier Christian Fellowship has had a long history with this event dating back some 14 years. Originally the combined ministers organised a small event but handed it to NCF who had an amazing lady Rose Weedon who organised the whole event for 10 years. The event was becoming larger and more time consuming so Rose asked another church member David Trim who was also an event manager to oversee this regular event. All this time Christmas in the Park was underwritten be Napier Christian Fellowship, and had been a local mission and financially supported by NCF. The year 2010 was different it was the biggest ever Christmas in the Park and it was financially free of debt. There were sufficient supporters and the local council for the first time also provided help without cost to the event.

The venue is a massive reserve in Napier, a park that not only hosts the event but has room for all the cars of the many attenders. Many arrive in the late afternoon with a picnic tea and make them comfortable for the 7:30 start. There are bouncy castles, face painting, and light sticks available.

Stephen and Sally Carnie the Senior Pastors of Napier Christian Fellowship have seen this event grow and although there have been those that challenged the cost and effectiveness of the event Steve's faith in the opportunity for the proclamation of the true Christmas Message has remained strong. In 2010 the faith of Steve and Sally and those who have worked to facilitate the event has been rewarded. Perhaps fittingly the sky was bathed in an orangey golden hue as the sun set, providing a heavenly signal of a testimony of amazing earth event, the birth of Christ.

Napier City has had the good news of Christ's birth declared, Praise God.

Cause 2012 Speakers Confirmed

Steve Penny is one of Australia's leading speakers. We are privileged to have him join us as our Key Note speaker for the Cause 2012 conference.

Steve is a minister with a passion to see the church flourish around the world. Up until the end of 2009 Steve & his wife Marion were the Senior Pastors of a key church on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland, Australia.

Steve took over the church in July 1999 and over the next ten years witnessed the miracle of rapid growth and the possession of a twelve million dollar campus on 16 acres, with an auditorium seating over 1500 people.

East City Life Church 4th Birthday

On the 11 August this year we celebrated our 4th birthday at which Pastor Jim Shaw spoke an excellent word on how valley experiences develop our Christian character. It is such a delight having him to speak. The church was inspired by the message and we all appreciated his and Anneke's attendance and inspiration. The youth group did an excellent drama and this was followed by another drama from our home groups personnel.

We hold our birthday celebrations each August being the month we started. This is to remember our beginnings and to give thanks to God for everything he has done and celebrate His successes amongst us. We double tithe to missions and in so doing support an orphanage of 20 children and 30 widows in Hyderabad, India. A Pastors Training School, a new church building project in Andhra Pradesh, a Pastors Leadership network, and a slum ministry in Chennai.

We believe as we give to others we open the door for God’s blessing to us and our people. We are growing by God’s grace and the pastoral staff are so thankful for every one who is putting their efforts into building God’s kingdom here. We are a multi ethnic Christian Family Church where Jesus is exalted in our purpose and mission. This has made us all colour and culture blind, and as such our love for each other is growing stronger.

Our mission is to put Jesus back into our community, city, nation, and the world in which we serve. We know that there are many other wonderful works in this country and trust that we may be an encouragement to you all. Pastors Chris & Joy Kim, and Pastor John & Jenny Phinn work hard with us, and we are privileged to serve with them. I salute our youth leader and workers, worship leader and team, our lay pastors, and most of all every contributing member. They are all awesome!

Gore New Life Celebrates 50 Years

On Saturday past and present members, along with three previous Pastors and their spouses attended a time of celebration and remembrance of fifty years history of this church.

Ps Reg and Marie Highsted, who pastored the church for nine years in the 1980's and had been in those early meetings with Ron Coady and Paul Collins, were able to give first hand accounts of the miracles as God moved powerfully in those early 60's. Broken limbs healed, teeth filled and many, many souls saved.

The outpouring of God's grace and power witnessed in those meetings was to spread and, in due course, impact all our nation, which saw the founding of Gore New Life Mission.

A local minister, currently serving as Convener of the Gore Ministers Association who was in those early meetings, recounted those times and testified how God used that outpouring to bring a fresh move of the Holy Spirit among the churches not only in Gore but to all of the South.

Ps John and Monette Jacks spoke at the Sunday meeting - John spoke of the year of jubilee and new beginnings for GNLC with a fresh move of God being at hand. All were to report for duty and get into rank for the battle lines are being drawn. Unity was to be a major key.

David Elder (A.L.T.) also had a word for the church, and in all this Senior Ps Peter and Ally Bohlsen were greatly encouraged.

If you're booking your flights remember that Kapiti's Airport is being upgraded, and as from October 2011 Air New Zealand will have several flights between Auckland and Kapiti.

Storm Camp Southland

The first Southern Storm Camp was held in February this year at Camp Columba in Pukerau. Eighty five young people came from all over Bluff, Invercargill, Gore, Wanaka, Dunedin, and Te Anau.

There were awesome speakers with Ps Steve Gwyn, a powerful prophetic speaker, and Ps Craig Jourdain, the Senior Pastor at CFC Pukekohe.

It was a great time to connect youth from all around the region. There was a real powerful move of God to the youth, and many had never experienced Christ before. God definitely transformed lives and our Youth Ministry, an amazing way to start the year.

An Awesome 3 weeks ministering to New Life Fellowship (NLFA) Leaders & Churches in India

In April just gone we were privileged to take over thirty meetings in Mumbai, Miraj and Pune. The main leaders of these regions welcomed us with great kindness, and a hunger to hear. Pastors Shelton & Melissa Davidson were such a blessing; they arranged most of our itinerary. Pastors Shanthkumar and Christopher Roberts opened doors in Pune and Miraj. (Miraj is 7 hours by road south of Mumbai; a city of 500,000.) We raised money to by some pastors in that area five new motorbikes, they need another fifteen.

We found the leaders were of such high calibre and integrity. In most areas pastors struggle with limited resources as they work tirelessly among the poor and underprivileged – we so admired them and helped where we were able. Overall the works of NLFA is vast and growing rapidly, but the church planting is only limited by the financial resources available to support pastors and evangelists. In Mumbai some new NLFA works are succeeding among the richer and educated people.

Shankar an incredible young pastor in Mumbai took us through a terrible slum of 80,000 people. He was brought up there, his father died when he was two and his mother an alcoholic; he got himself educated and now he has a burden and plan to win thousands in several slums; in that slum he has 80 house group churches held in tiny one room houses. Entering the slum you move through a maze of narrow one metre wide filthy, stinking passages. Houses of one room and one bed have up to 15 people - plus rats. The houses leak badly; we bought tarpaulins to cover 100 of the Christian houses or rather shacks – cost Rm8000 about NZ$240. The slum near the NLC offices has 300,000 gypsies living there. These slums flood badly causing horrible diseases. Most don't know how to read or write. Hundreds are coming to Christ and NLFA workers are establishing education programs because the people can’t read or write. Shunkar and his workers have to give the house group leaders verbal lessons which they pass on by memory. Sadly all these slums are next to posh housing and politician’s apartments.

Throughout the trip we kept great health even though it was the hot season it didn’t prove a worry. It was a wonderful privilege to minister among these people. Wow! there is so much to tell.

CAUSE 2011 CONFERENCE UPDATE

Last month 220 pastors and leaders from around NZ and several other nations gathered at Meadows Church in Paraparaumu for our annual New Life conference. International delegates from Australia, Fiji, Vanuatu and India attended and were enthusiastically involved.

What a wonderful time of meeting with God and one another – the atmosphere was one of faith and expectation and unity so God certainly commanded a blessing! The fellowship we shared with one another was so encouraging and the worship and Word was Christ exalting and inspiring.

The excellence of service and commitment from David Rigg and the team at Meadows in bringing this conference together was so appreciated – thank you for your amazing servant hearts.

New Life Movement Name Change

Movement Name Change to Reflect Expanding Vision:

NLCNZ will now be known as “New Life Churches International”. This change will take effect as of 1st April 2011 this year.

We believe that this change will help reflect the true nature of New Life as an international movement of ministries, churches and families of churches that have a global mandate to take the gospel into all the nations. However God may choose to do that, we want to be available, prepared and purposeful.

Over the next few weeks we will be giving more detail regarding strategy on how we see this vision being outworked.

Suffice to say, that relationships will be at the very core of how this will look. At the end of the day, all ministry must flow through relationship.

As an A.L.T. our hearts are to build with those who want to connect meaningfully with us while being able to embrace those from other nations that have a heart for the New Life movement here in New Zealand – ones with whom we share similar Kingdom core values.

Change of National Youth Director

Change of National New Life Youth Director:

In September of this year Stephen & Susan Miller will transition into the role of senior Leaders of Manukau New Life – requiring Stephen to step back from his national youth leadership role. The A.L.T. has recognised the gifts, call, passion and fruitfulness in the youth area on Glen Fraser (Youth and Associate Pastor at Life Christian Centre in Rangiora) and appointed him as the new youth director. He is supported by a fantastic team of youth pastors and leaders across our nation. Stephen, who has so amazingly pioneered the national role, will work closely with Glen. Stephen continues as a co-opted A.L.T. member with the youth portfolio. Please give Glen your full support as he continues to expand the vision to inspire, train and equip New Life youth to build the kingdom with purpose and passion.

Introducing

Glen and Debbie Fraser have been youth pastors at Life Christian Centre Rangiora over the last 12 years.

Their local youth vision statement is – “To see young people encountered by God’s massive heart of love and equipped to walk in the fullness of their royalty identity”.

Glen says “I’m looking to see a generation arise in New Zealand that has been totally grasped by the heart beat of the cause in Christ. We want to support your dream to see a vibrant growing youth community in your local church.

Glen and Debbie have been married for 12 years and have 4 children. They also own a Graphic Design and Printing business in Rangiora. Glen enjoys snow boarding, mountain biking, watching rugby, flat whites and art.

Unleashed 2010

UNLEASHED 2010 was a blast! Fifty plus newly credentialed or soon to be credentialed pastors gathered at El Rancho for New Life Churches #2 training week.

The reports are coming in from attendees that the five days together with senior ministry from the movement, was possibly the most life changing experience for them. This training conference is one of two conferences that all probationary pastors within the movement in NZ are required to attend.

This was our largest UNLEASHED gathering to date since first established in 2007 and each year it just gets better and better. If the quality of people attending in 2010 is any indication of the health of New Life Churches, the future for our movement is VERY bright.

We were very proud of our three little babies, one delightful toddler, and our first

time Mum-to-be. These parents are some of the younger generation of leaders we are thrilled to see emerging.

David and I are really looking forward to our second year being with you all. Our first year, 2009, was such an incredible life changing experience. We arrived not knowing what to expect….and left on such an incredible HIGH that we are still riding on…RED HOT for JESUS…and it’s great!!!!!!

The work that you, and those supporting and imputing with you, are doing is without a doubt God ordained, Christ inspired and Holy Spirit filled.

The material taught was insightful and invaluable for us and also in ministering to others. We have this year, after being so inspired and enriched by our experience at UNLEASHED, become Facilitators for The Life Keys program. The desire for others to experience what we experienced has become a deep burning passion.

Your UNLEASHED program really has unleashed a fire in our bellies, a passion in our walk and a new boldness for all that God desires us to do.
